WE ARE

HOME BY MIDNIGHT!

EST. 2018

Vancouver’s BEST dance party for EARLY RISERS!

the story

Would you believe we started Home by Midnight on a dare?

We did!

Many moons ago, Mikael Bingham (Co-Founder) was complaining that there were no dance parties that catered to parents with small kids who couldn’t do ‘Doors at 10’. She suggested she might just start one herself. Rachel Morris (Co-Founder) responded with -

’SO DO IT!’.

Not one to say no to a challenge, she grabbed a crack team of dance-loving friends and they ran. They booked a venue, begged a favor from the amazing DJ Why So Serious, and prayed for the best.

The first night was held at a Bean Around the World in 2018. Buzz got around, so we quickly relocated to our home at the Anza Club, and we’ve been doing our thing ever since!

Home by Midnight was born of the collective longing of so many folx who love to dance, hate clubbing, and for whatever reason, need to be up at a reasonable hour the next day!

It was our dream...and we think it just might be yours too!

What makes

Hbm special?

i literally live foR these

“I literally live for these dance parties! The DJ is amazing, always playing fun, danceable music. The crowd is friendly, welcoming, and warm. There is no attitude about what people are wearing - I've seen everything from sequins and heels to yoga pants and Birks - all welcomed.

HBM is 97% free of toxic masculinity and the patriarchy. Good times!”

The energy is SuPer positive

”The energy is super positive and friendly... and I probably get about 20,000 steps in over the course of the night!”

I love it all

“I LOVE it all! The hits from start to finish, the packed dance floor, the wearing-whatever-I-want, the fantastically welcoming vibes. Also: being able to dance my face off and get home at a sensible hour seriously appeals to my old lady energy. Thank you!”

I wIsh It was Every 2 weeks

”When people wear comfortable footwear, they dance longer. The crowd is more interested in going hard than picking up. I wish this was every two weeks!”

what to expect

social comradery / diversity / awesome music

Our clientele are a fabulously mixed bag of parents, students, shift-workers, and more.

Community is strong here! Expect to smile and feel part of something pretty special!

We adhere strictly to our belief that dance is for everyone; every body and every expression.

DJ Why So Serious is seriously good at her job! She spins everything from the 90's on: Pop, Hip-Hop, RnB, Afrobeats, Latin, Reggaeton, and more! (psst. she even takes and plays requests!)

Oh, and don't stress about dressing to impress -

We are a women-run not-for-profit organization selfishly doing our part to enable others like us to dance and still wake up for that early shift or screaming child. Or both?! We need community, freedom of self-expression, queer friendly and formed spaces, connection, and dancing! We’ve all felt the twang of social isolation and we’d like to offer a hand; particularly for populations who are excluded from the classic offerings of city-based nightlife.

We LOVE Home By Midnight. Sometimes more than our own children (of which there are 8 among us!) We have witnessed it grow from a teeny baby to the masterpiece of connection it is becoming. We are so proud of the community that has formed at HBM. Our job has been done well when we turn into pumpkins because we are catching up with familiar faces, or blushing with glee when folx tell us what a welcoming and fun space we have fostered together!

We most certainly couldn’t do any of this without the amazing vibe created by all who come to dance!

THANK YOU! xo

be awesome!

The be awesome to each other code of conduct

Home By Midnight takes seriously the right of safety, comfort, and respect for all.

The Be Awesome To Each Other Code is simple -

be kind and awesome to each other.

We do not allow:

misogyny, racism, fatphobia, homophobia, ageism, transphobia or ableism.

These all fall squarely outside our definition of awesome and, as such, are not welcome at Home By Midnight events and you will be asked to leave.

DON'T BE LESS THAN AWESOME!
